Last-minute packing always leaves you missing at least one or two key accessories or pieces of clothing, so it pays to plan ahead, even though that’s a little less spontaneous.
Always take less than you think you need, you almost definitely won’t wear all of it and fewer clothes means more room for new items purchased whilst you are away.
Dresses, mini, maxi dresses or anything in between, are easy to wear and can be dressed up or down with accessories or jewellery. Avoid jumpsuits as they can be difficult to take on and off, particularly if you are planning a trip to the beach.
Mix and match shorts, skirts and tops and try to stick to a particular colour scheme so everything matches. This will also save you space in your suitcase.
White is a great colour to take as it goes with everything and will also show off your tan – check some of our latest designs in white in our New In Section. It’s a good idea to pack a light jacket in case it gets a bit chillier in the evenings – and don’t forget underwear and sleepwear.
Shoes and Accessories
One pair of flip flops and a pair of pretty sandals will be enough. Don’t overdo the heels as your feet will swell in warm weather and you will probably be walking more than you usually do as well. Stick to flats and travel in a pair of converse or light plimsolls.
Check how many bags you can carry on the flight and weigh them – don’t take the risk of having to pay excess baggage at the airport. Make sure your beach bag is really big so you can carry around essentials such as bottles of water, hats, towel and sun cream. You may also want to pack a smaller bag to take on walks or expeditions and for use in the evenings. A shoulder bag is best to keep your hands free.
Other essential holiday accessories include sunglasses, a sun hat (it’s worth spending the time to find one you like), a couple of scarves (that can serve as sarongs and cover for head and shoulders) and some key items of jewellery, again it’s best to choose those that you can mix and match.
To really brighten up an outfit, why not invest in some flowered hair clips or garlands. These are light and bright and easy to wear, and won’t take up much space in your suitcase either.
In addition to a few bikinis and swimming costumes, tunic tops or kaftans are a must. They are light to pack, can be hand-washed and will dry quickly, and you will not only look great but feel cool and comfortable as you head to the swimming pool or beach.
Happy holidays from the Goose Island team.
