If you’re fed up of last year's winter wardrobe, don’t despair; sometimes all it takes is a quick update to pull off the look you loved so much last season or even to create a whole new fashion vibe.
Whether you’re into print or plain classic, you can often mix and match a new cashmere or cowl neck top with your good old trusty jeans or black Capri pants. Add a touch of glamour to a plain dress with a faux fur waistcoat or colourful scarf and handbag.
Goose Island is continually developing a versatile and exciting range of designs to keep you smart, fashionable and warm this winter, embracing the most popular trends from the Winter 2016 catwalk.
Pretty in Print
Prints are one of the most popular fashion trends this winter for tops and dresses alike. Many of us think that wearing a print dress is enough to create a unique look, but they’re fun to style too. Prints comes in all sorts of colours and variations and can look particularly striking when matched with another print, like stripes.
Our tip for making print dresses or tops to stand out is to get creative and find new ways to wear print by either honing in on bright new colours, juxtaposing them against unexpected textures, or introducing creative accessories.
Classic Winter Dresses
You don’t have to surrender to shapeless sweaters now that the temperatures have started to drop. Classic, loose-fitting dresses will keep you cosy and chic all season long and can be brightened up or complemented with scarves, bags, shoes, boots, tights and even hats!
For example, you can take a plain black round neck dress and wear it work with heels or boots, wear it to a special occasion by adding a whole load of silver bling, or even to a football match under a gilet, waistcoat with a contrasting scarf.
Grey is also a great neutral Winter colour that allows for huge flexibility and will match or contrast any colour. On a plain, long, grey dress you can layer on a bunch of long, delicate necklaces to dress the look up a bit, or throw on a pair of ankle boots and casual jacket to dress it down for an informal occasion.
If you prefer brighter colours, then that works too! Pick a rust or mustard this winter, both will look stunning with black tights, shoes or boots and colourful scarf that picks out the brightness in your dress; and don’t forget to leave your dark winter coat open to show that stunning splash of colour.
Everlasting Cowl Neck
The rigid, neck-hugging turtleneck that was so popular in the in 1970’s has, over the years, softened and relaxed into the soft folds of the everlasting cowl neck. This oversized neck feature falls smoothly away from the neckline and continues to be a favourite style for soft angora or cashmere sweaters.
The extra folds of fabric mean that a cowl neck is not only a fashionable choice for tops, jumpers, dresses and tunics but they also add a sophisticated dimension to evening dresses and jump suites.
And if you think you can’t accessorise a cowl neck, try a dainty floating heart charm dangling from a delicate gold chain; alternatively go for a statement, long and chunky necklace that sits under the cowl and reaches down the full length of the top.
Faux Fur Fun
On trend again for the Winter 2016 season is the faux fur fashion which continues to hold the spotlight. A faux fur jacket, gilet or waistcoat will keep you warm and stylish without having to bundle up in an uncomfortable winter coat.
A long or short sleeveless waistcoat or gilet will keep you snug whilst showing off your new Winter tops, trousers or skirts; and you don’t have to stick to neutral colours. Try a pale pink or stunning ivory to create a fabulous contrast to your darker winter wardrobe. Add a hood for extra warmth and style and you will look fashionable and fabulous throughout the season.
