How important is fashion in menopause ?

As we age, our bodies go through some dramatic changes. Menopause is one of those big changes that can have an impact on the fashion choices we make. While it can seem like a daunting process to figure out how to dress for menopausal body types and hot flashes, there are plenty of options available and we don't have to auto turn to simple styles that cover our figures!

I often see numerous statements suggesting women going through the menopause should be fashion focused on baggy loose clothing. This feeds into the stigma of us having to cover up our shapes and wear unflattering clothes to hide behind! This does nothing but fuel that little niggling thought at the back of our heads that knocks our confidence. Aging gracefully doesn't mean we should now disappear in the crowd - and we believe the exact opposite!

It’s important to remember that comfort and practicality should be your top priorities when choosing clothing. During menopause, many women experience hot flashes, night sweats, and other physical changes.

When selecting clothes, look for fabrics that are light, breathable, and comfortable. Natural fibres such as cotton, bamboo, and linen are great choices. Additionally, you may want to look for styles that offer more coverage, such as long cardigans, kimonos, and tunics. It’s easy to go to your go to style, or to steer away from items which make you feel uncomfortable.

Now really is a time to reinvent your style and not shy away! So if you're looking for breathable clothing that looks stylish but still has a relaxed feel, natural fabrics are going to be your best bet.

We've always dressed to the weather, but that becomes somewhat difficult when our body no longer seems to have a temperature gauge. Layering will become your new friend throughout this time - and they all don't have to be drab!

There are now all different styles of elegant looking vest tops on the market that don't have to look so casual. The lace bottom vests are a life saver for these moments, and you will no longer have to fret about taking layers off and no longer looking put together and stylish.

If jeans seem like a bother when you may be feeling a little uncomfortable, leggings have also taken a huge upgrade! No longer are they used for lounging, and wet look leggings and smarter looking treggings can keep you as comfortable as possible while pulling a smarter look together.

Accessories are the unsung heroes of any wardrobe. Those extra details can really pull an outfit together and make all the difference. Scarves, hats, jewellery - these accessories can become your go to in times of need.

Scarves for example can be used to cover up when you're feeling hot, but also look stylish and fashionable too! Jewellery is another great way to add a little bit of sparkle or colour to an outfit without having to compromise on comfort.

Whether it's classic gold earrings with a plain white tee or some statement necklaces against a dress, adding some glitz and glamour can help make any day feel special. Make accessories do the work so you don't have to!

It’s important to choose clothing that complements your silhouette, which can be a daunting experience when our bodies seem to be changing daily. During menopause, many women experience changes in their body shape.

Embrace your new shape and look for clothing that flatters it. For example, if you’ve gained weight in your middle, look for empire waists and A-line skirts that will create a flattering silhouette. Dressing differently to how you’re used to can sometimes be something we want to run the other direction from, but it can also be a great experience to finding what suits your body best and what makes you feel fabulous!

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles. Menopause is a great time to try out new styles and find out what works best for you. Try out different colours, patterns, and textures to find out what looks best on you. You may be surprised to find that some styles you previously shied away from are actually quite flattering for you and can give you that extra pop of confidence!

Take note of what makes you feel most confident and empowered. As you get to know yourself, you may be surprised at the new styles and looks you can create. Embrace your age and take advantage of this time to discover your own unique style.

Menopause can have a significant impact on a person's self esteem. For some, the physical changes that accompany menopause can lead to a dip in confidence and can at times make us feel a little less desirable. Changes in body shape, weight gain, and hot flashes can all contribute towards this.

Additionally, changes in the skin, hair, and nails can be difficult to manage and get used to. Many women find it difficult to shop for clothing during this time, as their body shape and size may have changed significantly.

Finding appropriate clothing can become a challenge, and for some, a source of frustration. It is important for women to remember that menopause is a part of life, and that feeling good about themselves is crucial.

There are ways to manage the physical changes, such as regular exercise and healthy eating, as well as seeking out clothing that is comfortable and flattering. With the right attitude and approach, menopause can be managed and a woman can still feel confident and beautiful.

With age comes wisdom and many women turn to fashion as a way to express their newfound confidence. They may choose to wear bolder colours, experiment with different styles, or even purchase items that are more luxurious or unique. Ultimately, fashion culture is a great way for women to embrace the changes happening in their bodies and to express themselves in a way that makes them feel confident and beautiful.

Ultimately, menopause is a natural part of the aging process, and it can be managed with the right attitude and approach. Fashion is one way to express your newfound confidence and make sure you feel comfortable in your own skin.

By exploring different styles, wearing bolder colours, or investing in more luxurious pieces of clothing, women can still feel beautiful during this time of life. So, embrace the changes that come with menopause and enjoy fashion as a way to express who you are!
